Artificial intelligence (Al) has profound implications for societies and is one of the central issues in the era of converging technologies. Developing and implementing AI has been challenging, even for some of the world's top companies. So then, if your organization is considering its implementation, what is the best way to start an AI project? What are the properties of a good quality data? What are the components of a comprehensive AI strategy? How can you ensure the AI system you build is ethically aligned? IEEE senior member Abel Pena- Fernandez shares practical knowledge on how to create an AI holistic strategy to drive long-lasting business impact, the elements of a comprehensive AI strategy, and the UNESCO recommendations of the ethical values, principles, and policy that should be respected by all actors developing the AI system.


Abel graduated of the United Nations Diplomacy 4.0 program . He is an electrical engineer, AI business advisor and educator. He started transforming businesses introducing new technologies over 20 years ago. In 2016, he was recognized as a Senior Member by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). An acknowledgement for his contributions to society working for Texas Instruments (USA Department of Defense), for the creation of Centers of Technology, introducing new technologies, developing and teaching innovative training programs in collaboration with Europe, USA, CALA and Brazil. Currently he is a IEEE contributor to: Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems developing these standards, P7003: Algorithm Bias Consideration, and P2863: Recommended Practice for Organizational Governance of Artificial Intelligence. He is an IEEE committee member of the AIS Ethics Education Global Initiative. Abel is the founder of Code Explorers Worldwide, and The AI Training. The United Nations recognized Code Explorers in 2019 for developing and deploying a Natural Language Processing(NLP) application using AI and 3D content to educate on UN Sustainable Development Goals. The project was presented at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The UNESCO AI Center ( at Republic of Slovenia has invited Abel as a speaker in 2021.
